Elizabeth Zea started baking with her mother when she was only about four years old. Their favorite thing to make together? Butter cookies.
been making these butter cookies since she was a little girl and then started to share the tradition with me when I was around four or five years old. We collected hundreds of cookie cutters over the years, Zea said.
So, in honor of this holiday tradition and her mother Becky, Butter B Bakery is now open for business. Located on East Grand Ave. between S. Barstow and Farwell Streets, next to Ed Barber Shop, Butter B is a dessert style bakery specializing in custom cupcakes, cookies, and cake pops. Zea says along with the retail area,
items can also be custom ordered for events or any special occasion.
have a daily changing menu which allows us to be creative and offer customers a wide variety of freshly baked sweets each day. I like to experiment with new recipes and keep things interesting so I hope people will enjoy coming in to try new things. the shop opened at the beginning of October, Zea plans to open The Sweet Studio in the shop in December, which will allow people to come and decorate their own cookies or cupcakes, and even make gingerbread houses around Christmas.
of the reasons I love baking is that it a lot like art, and The Sweet Studio will be a fun place to come and design your own edible masterpiece. says she quite excited for the holidays and starting traditions in the shop. After moving from New York about a year and a half ago with her husband, the Zeas look forward to spending more time in a place they come to enjoy, now with their one year old son.
family and I love the downtown area and spend a lot of time here and in Phoenix Park. We were thrilled to find such a cute spot which allows us to be part of downtown, especially during this exciting time of growth and new construction, Zea said.
