QUEENSTOWN Penderyn, the opulent, waterfront Chef Boyardee estate in Queenstown, is back on the auction block. The estate will sell Wednesday, June 28, in an online auction by Concierge Auctions as part of the company’s June Portfolio Sale.

Located at 300 Wye Narrows Drive, the 22,500 square foot Georgian style mansion, was constructed at a cost of $18 million in 1989 for Mario J. Boiardi, son of the famous Italian canned foods producer Chef Boyardee, and built for entertaining.

The estate sits on a lush, landscaped peninsula that includes more than 24 acres with some 2,200 feet of shoreline along DeCoursey Cove on the Wye River.

The property is listed at an asking price of $7.7 million with Cliff Meredith, an associate broker with Meredith Fine Properties. It has been on the market for six or seven months, Meredith said. He added the auction is an accelerated way of moving the property.

The sale includes two parcels, Meredith explained, the main property with the mansion and a separate waterfront parcel with a 157 foot, deep water dock with 11 boat slips.

Concierge is handling the auction, said Alexander Wisotsky, project sales manager. It brings pre qualified buyers who are prepared to close in 30 days with cash.

The June sale is particularly targeting Chinese real estate investors, but prospective buyers may bid from anywhere in the world via the Concierge Auctions’ custom mobile bidding app.

“When people register as a bidder, they download the app,” Wisotsky said. During the auction, they’ll be on their phone with a bidding agent; the app displays the current bid and asking price; they’ll click on the bid button to place a bid. Eastern Standard Time and will probably last 45 minutes to an hour, Wisotsky said. The reserve price for the estate is $3.5 million, though he said he anticipates it will go for a lot more.

“Anybody can watch the auction if they download the app,” Meredith said.

Penderyn Estate boasts eight bedrooms, nine full and three half baths, 11 wood burning fireplaces, an Italian styled kitchen with state of the art appliances, a dining room with seating for 22 guests, a billiard room and more, all with 12 foot ceilings and custom crown molding.

The bedrooms feature a fireplace, balcony and en suite bathroom with a large soaking tub. The master bedroom also features a separate reading room, a balcony with waterfront views, and a master bath with his and her sinks and separate rooms for dressing and showering.

The estate also includes a parlor that opens up to a veranda and a pool with a 15 foot bar, a guest house, an expansive courtyard, and a four car heated garage with an office.

The current sellers are Henry Meinhardt and Sam Keyton, operating as Penderyn of Maryland LLC. They purchased the property from former Nextel Communications owner and CEO Morgan O’Brien in a July 2014 auction, closing the sale in September 2014. They have marketed the estate as a wedding venue.
