Chico >> A 26 year old Chico man was found dead early Thursday morning in an apartment north of Chico State University, and Chico Police Chief Mike O said the man death is considered in nature. man name was not immediately released Thursday morning, and no arrests or suspects were announced. Thursday regarding a man down inside an apartment in the 1500 block of North Cherry Street, between West Fourth and Sixth avenues, O said.
The police chief withheld several details about the case, including information about who initially called the police and why investigators consider the man death suspicious.
O did say, however, that police suspect they know how the man died, and that it the department belief his death is likely a homicide.
believe it is highly suspicious, he said. want to confirm some things before we release that. autopsy is pending.
The man background information was not immediately available at a news conference held Thursday morning at the Chico Police Department.
A possible motive also was not released.
An investigation is ongoing, O said.
Should the man death prove to be a homicide, it would be the fifth homicide in the city of Chico this year, including two deaths at the hands of police that were considered justified by Butte County district attorney.
Murder charges have been filed in two other cases, including the strangulation death of a homeless woman found in a motel room on The Esplanade in July, and the death of a man who police say was robbed and fatally shot in the 900 block of West Fourth Avenue in October.
