Robert Lee “Bob”McCollam was born in Iowa City on November 23, 1936. He attended Bettendorf and Davenport high schools, graduating in 1954. After high school, he joined the Naval Air Force and served on a blimp squadron in Georgia. In 1956, he married Donna Chapman at Bettendorf Community Presbyterian Church, where her father, Rev. Donald Paul Chapman, officiated. Robert continued serving in the military, repairing P2V Neptunes in Okinawa, until his honorable discharge in 1957. degree in education.
During his teaching and coaching career at Blue Grass, Bettendorf Middle and Walcott Schools, he was affectionately known as “Mr. Mac.” He was a favorite math teacher and wrestling coach, leading his teams to multiple city championships.
Bob was an active member of Blue Grass Presbyterian Church and Grace Bible Church of Sun City, Arizona, taking leadership roles in youth and adult ministry. He enjoyed golf, fishing,
his Men’s Bible Study, and a rock hobby including jewelry making.
He is survived by Donna, wife of 61 years; daughter, Cindy Bucknam and husband Chris; son, Rob McCollam and wife Bonnie; son, Dan McCollam and wife Regina; eight grandchildren;five great grandchildren; two sisters, JoAnn Aguirre, and Verna Kelsey; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
