A student from Blyth has been named the face of NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week in a flashbulb pose off.
Bethan Sproat, 18,
will have her face on posters, adverts and programmes sent out to 7,000 homes for the fashion extravaganza.
And when the festival begins on May 9, she’ll walk down the catwalk alongside finalists Vikki Bell, 21,
and Lauren Marshall, 20.
Bethan said: “I am completely ecstatic and it’s absolutely unreal that I’ve won.
“I’ve done some modelling in the past but nothing compared to this. I can’t believe I nearly didn’t enter!”
“When I came to the casting I was really intimidated because everyone just looked fantastic. Obviously I did something right.
“It just goes to show that you need to take the opportunities you can because you never know what’s going to come from them.”
The nurse’s daughter has been signed with festival partners Boho Models since last year, but had never been able to attend due to school commitments.
At only 18 she knows her options are still open and hopes to attend Royal Holloway University in London where professors will need to fight for her attention against the glitzy hordes strutting their stuff in Britain’s fashion capital.
But Bethan says she loved modelling from the moment she stepped on to her first shoot. She said: “I can’t explain the feeling. When I’m in front of the camera I feel like a different person, but I also feel much more myself. I feel more confident and just kind of special.
“I get an adrenaline rush when I come back off the shoot and there’s no other feeling like it. My mates keep me quite grounded,
which I thank them for, otherwise I’d be pretty full of myself. I am sure they will be sick of seeing me on the posters and programmes by the time the event is over. ”
The finalists had their full make up done and posed in clothes by Northumbria University students to a brief by boot brand Dr Martens.
The festival, now in its fourth year, will highlight Newcastle’s fashion prowess from its thriving high street shops to the university’s UK leading School of Design.
Sandra Tang, events manager at organisers NE1,
said: “We’re delighted to name Bethan as the face of this year’s Fashion Week. Her photographs are extremely striking and stood out from the other girls’.
“The decision was tough because the quality of entries was staggeringly high and all the girls did exceptionally well during the photo shoot.”
