doc martens patent Government shutdown
House and Senate lawmakers engaged in another round of negotiations on Sunday to end the government shutdown as it continued into the second day.
Federal workers deemed “nonessential” were furloughed, which means they don’t have to go to work, and “essential” federal workers are still on the job.
USPS operations will not be interrupted due to the Gov’t shutdown, all Post Offices will remain open for business as usual. Because we are an independent entity that is funded through the sale of our products services, not by tax dollars, USPS will not be impacted.
Social Security checks, Supplemental Security Income, unemployment pay, food stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and Medicaid benefits will continue to be paid.
Passport services are funded partly by fees, which means it’s not completely dependent on Congress, so passports can still be issued for a short time. But if the shutdown continues, applications can be delayed.
Immediate impacts are seen at many National Parks. Some parks are closed and some parks may have areas that remain accessible to visitors, but access may change without notice.
“Some lodging, restaurants, and other services may be available when provided by concessioners or other entities. Be aware that there will be no National Park Service provided visitor services, including restrooms, trash collection, facilities, or road maintenance,” a National Parks Service notice said.
The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are both closed. Gateway National Recreation Area is the only park closed on Staten Island.
Most federal employees will remain on the job, including staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Customs and Border Protection agents are also on the job. Essential pentagon civilians will also work, and the remainder furloughed. Both will be paid when the government reopens.
Military Exchanges are open; commissaries, except for those located overseas or in a few remote locations, will also close.
Air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration will remain on the job despite the shutdown.
“Due to a lapse in funding, the FAA will only continue “exempt” activities such as air traffic control and safety inspections. There will be no impact to safety or safety oversight for the traveling public,” the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Non essential Internal Revenue Service employees could be furloughed, which can slow down tax refunds. Tax help lines operated by the IRS will not be open and audits won’t be conducted.
